WHAT IS IT?
WHO DO I CONTACT?
This program serves food insecure students in the Shippensburg Area School District by providing a backpack of 7 meals over the weekend during the school year.
If you are interested in signing up for the program, please contact your child's school counselor.
HOW TO HELP
The program, headed by Josh Stromberg, AmeriCorps VISTA, and Sonja Payne, SCRC's Community Health Mobilizer, currently has the capacity to distribute backpacks to 100 students for this school year. If you are interested in volunteering, we need volunteers to organize food drives, pack backpacks, and help transport backpacks to the schools. Community organizations and businesses can also partner with Hound Packs. Please contact VISTA@ship.edu to find out how you or your group can get involved.
This program is funded in part by a grant from Wellspan Health and Partnership from Better Health. It is also funded in part by the Shippensburg University community as the 2018 Homecoming Court selected Hound Packs as their Homecoming Philanthropy. Lastly, we would not be able to do this program without our partnership with the Shippensburg First Church of God. We store food and pack the bags at the church every week. Also, they coordinate the purchase of food through the Central PA Food Bank and assist with fundraising. We are grateful to all three of these organizations for their financial support of Hound Packs!
