Youth Food Security Programs
The Youth Food Security Programs serve food insecure students in the Shippensburg Area School District through two different programs. The Hound Packs Program runs on the weekends during the school year. The Summer Learning Program runs during the school summer holiday.

WHAT IS IT?
The Hound Pack program serves food-insecure students in the Shippensburg Area School District by providing a backpack of 7 meals over the weekend during the school year.

SUMMER LEARNING PROGRAM
WHAT IS IT?
2024 Summer Learning Dates:

The Summer Learning program offers free activities, breakfast, and lunch for 7 weeks in the summer since 2012.
WHERE: James Burd Elementary School, 600 Brad St, Shippensburg, PA
WHO: Children who have completed K-11th grade
WHEN: Monday - Friday from 8:30 am to 12 pm.
Breakfast: 8:30 am
Lunch: 11:30 am
Fridays are field trips to various places in the greater community. Each summer, a theme is chosen based on a book that will be read throughout the summer.
WHO DO I CONTACT?
There is no pre-registration form. Please fill out a registration form and parent survey to bring with you on the first day your children attends:
After this, the children can show up and have fun! Children can attend as many days they would like throughout the summer!

HOW TO HELP
Volunteer
We need your help! Volunteers are always needed to assist with daily activities and field trips, provide snacks, do a special activity with the children or be a guest presenter. If you are a high school student looking for volunteer hours, we would love to have you volunteer with us!
All volunteers over the age of 17 must complete the Child Abuse Clearance Check and Criminal Background Check. If you are looking to be a volunteer or want more information on the Summer Learning Program, please contact Laurie Cella at ljcella@ship.edu.
